The Region 10 Student Activities committee is run by some of the best minds present in the IEEE Asia Pacific Region.

The individuals involved with this Committee in the year 2010 are as follows.

Takao Onoye

Takao Onoye received his B.E. and M.E. degrees in electronic engineering, and his Dr.Eng. degree in information systems engineering, all from Osaka University, Osaka, Japan, in 1991, 1993 and 1997, respectively. He started his academic carrier at Osaka University as a research associate in 1993, where he was promoted to a Lecturer in 1998. From 1999 to 2003 he was an Associate Professor at the Department of Communications and Computer Engineering, Kyoto University. He is presently a Professor at the Department of Information Systems Engineering, Osaka University. Meanwhile, he was with the ICS Department, University of California, Irvine, as a  visiting associate researcher in 1997 through 1998.For more on Professor Mini S. Mini Shaji Thomas

Mini Shaji Thomas graduated from University of Kerala, completed her M. Tech from IIT Madras (both with gold medals) & PhD from IIT Delhi, India, all in Electrical Engineering.  Presently Mini is Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), a prominent Central Government University in New Delhi, India. Mini received the prestigious ‘career Award’ for young teachers, Govt. of India, She has set up the first of their kind SCADA lab and Substation Automation Lab in JMI  and also started a new M. Tech program in Electrical Power System Management. She has published more than 40 papers in Journals and Conferences of repute. Mini was the Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering and currently she is the Public Information Officer of JMI, and is the coordinator of the Special Assistance Program (SAP)  on Power System Automation from UGC Government of India and other research projects. Om Perkash Batra

Om is a 22 year old student from Karachi currently doing his Masters of engineering in Australian National University, Canberra. He has served as Branch Chair IEEE-NUCES Karachi, Chair IEEE Techweek 2005, Student head IEEE INMIC 2005 (Multi-topic conference), Student Head IEEE ICIET 2007, Chair Pakistan student congress 2007, Secretary IEEE Karachi Section 2008-2009, RSR 2008) amongst others.

Prasanna Venkatesan

Prasanna is a IT Consultant with the IBM Software Labs . He has done is Bachelors in Computers from the portals of the National Institute of Technology Warangal. At IBM he consults, leads incubation projects and also manages Campus Relations. With IEEE he has assumed various volunteering positions including Branch Chair of IEEE NITW. Under his leadership the branch won the prestigious Asia Pacific Exemplary SB Award among much other recognition. He later lead the networking Initiative of IEEE R10 at Hyderabad Section before moving on to lead the same at the R10 Level


Jing Dong

Jing is a Ph.D student in Pattern Recognition in the Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Her research interests are Pattern Recognition, Image Processing and Digital Image Forensics including watermarking, steganalysis and tampering detection. She also has served as Branch Chair of IEEE@GUCAS, Beijing, Organizing Committee Chair of 2009 IEEE Youth Conference on Information, Computing and Telecommunication(Int’l conference) and has been involved  with several other student activities across different sections in China.


Chuan-Zheng Lee

Chuan-Zheng is in his final undergraduate year, studying electrical and electronic engineering in the University of Auckland’s three-year Accelerated Pathway to the BE(Hons).  He has sat on his Student Branch’s Executive Committee since joining the IEEE in 2008.  He serves as the Student Branch Chair for 2009–2010, a role in which he has led a constitutional and bylaw overhaul.  An ardent believer in the value of international links to IEEE membership, Chuan-Zheng is also involved in GINI for Australia and New Zealand.

Arjun R. Pillai

Arjun R. Pillai is currently pursuing his final year in Electronics and Communication Engineering from College of Engineering Chengannur(CEC), Kerala, India. He has served as the Vice Chair of the IEEE 125th Anniversary Region 10 Student Congress 2009, Singapore. He has also held posts as the GINI Co-ordinator of Kerala Section(2008-09), IEEE-LINK Hub Driver(2008) and Secretary IEEE-SB, CEC. He has also received the Outstanding Volunteer Award of Kerala Section in 2009.

Imran Ali

Imran Ali in currently pursuing his B.Tech. degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi(class of 2011) where he currently serves as the Chairperson of the University SB. He has formerly served as the General Secretary and also helped develop the branch website which won the runners up position in the the R10 website contest for the year 2008. He has been involved with the R10 SAC through various means in the past year including setting up of the R10SAC and GINI pilot section website(s).
